CELEBRATIONS
- Aranjuez
honors the memory of Joaquín Rodrigo on the second anniversary of
his death.
Mayor José María Cepeda and the City Council of Aranjuez,
presented a ceremony in memory of Joaquín Rodrigo on July 6th, marking
the second anniversary of the Maestro's death. The tribute included
an address by Professor Florencio Hernández Campos, a performance
by the Band of the "Joaquín Rodrigo" Municipal School of Music,
Mayor Cepeda's words of recognition of the composer who has made
the name Aranjuez famous throughout the world, and the placing of
flowers at the Rodrigo family burial vault at the Santa Isabel Municipal
Cemetary in Aranjuez.
- On november the
22nd, 2000, the lottery ticket of the blind will be dedicated to
Joaquin Rodrigo on his 99th anniversary.

- The regional
legislature of Valencia declared 2001 the "Rodrigo Year".
- The Spanish government
has been requested to declare November 22 the "Day of Spanish
music" in memory of Joaquín Rodrigo.
- On
november the 17th, 2001 the National Lottery ticket will be dedicated
to Joaquín Rodrigo on his centenary.
- Postage stamp
issued in honor of the composer Joaquín Rodrigo

On
April 5, 2001, the General Director of Spanish Postal Services,
Alberto Núñez Feijoo, together with Cecilia Rodrigo, the composer's
daughter, Aurea Roldán, Commissioner of the National Centenary Commission
and José María Cepeda, Mayor of Aranjuez, presented the new postage
stamp dedicated to the 100th year of Joaquín Rodrigo's birth in
a ceremony held in the Joaquín Rodrigo Hall at the Isabel de Farnesio
Cultural Center in Aranjuez.
In
his presentation, the General Director emphasized the importance
of Rodrigo, who died less than two years ago, and his contribution
to popularizing refined music in today's society, as well as the
worldwide significance of one of the most universal musicians of
the twentieth century.
Following
the ceremony, a short recital was presented by the soprano Fabiola
Masino and the pianist Fernando Turina. The program consisted of
the following works by Joaquín Rodrigo for voice and piano: "Una
pastora yo amí", "Morena me llaman", from Cuatro Canciones Sefardíes,
Fino Cristal, Esta niña se lleva la flor, Tres Villancicvos , and
Cuatro Madrigales Amatorios.
- Municipal
School of Music Named for Joaquín Rodrigo.
The Municipal School of Music in San Martín de Valdeiglesias (Madrid)
will be called the Joaquín Rodrigo School of Music in recognition
of the long standing ties that the composer had with the town of
San Martin de Valdeiglesias for over 30 years.
- March
9. 2002: Unveiling of a bust of Joaquín Rodrigo, donated
by the Victoria and Joaquín Rodrigo Foundation to the École
Normale de Musique of Paris. Coinciding with the tests for candidates
to the scholarship which the Victoria and Joaquín Rodrigo
Foundation grants for a year of studies in Paris.
