JOAQUÍN RODRIGO CENTENARY CELEBRATION


We hereby invite admirers of the life and work of Joaquín Rodrigo to participate in the Centenary tribute to this great composer. Please let us know about your projects, performances and any activity planned in honor of Rodrigo.

Joaquín Rodrigo, Marquis of the Gardens of Aranjuez, the internationally famous composer, was born on St. Cecilia’s day, the patron saint of music, November 22, 1901.

The Spanish government issued a Royal Decree on July 9, 1999 setting up a National Commission, which will organize the events to commemmorate the 100th year of Rodrigo’s birth. The King and Queen of Spain are Honorary Presidents of the Commission.

Working under the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Commission, will promote and coordinate the Centenary activities which public and private institutions will undertake throughout the year 2001-2002.
