OCTOBER 2003

Seminar: Joaquín Rodrigo and Spanish musical composition in the nineteen forties.

Following the many events that were organized in tribute to Maestro Joaquín Rodrigo on the Centenary of his birth, extensive studies on this composer have stimulated further research concerning his musical production.

Recent scientific encounters and collective essays have examined periods in Spain which until recently were not well explored or understood, such as the years following the Spanish Civil War and the Second World War.

This is the background for the Agreement which was signed for collaboration between the Victoria and Joaquín Rodrigo Foundation and the University of Valladolid and the Complutense University of Madrid, and led to the organization of this seminar Joaquín Rodrigo and Spanish musical composition in the nineteen forties. The seminar will deal with two subjects: the works of Maestro Joaquín Rodrigo and Spanish music in the nineteen forties, both of which today are of maximum interest to Spanish musicologists.
