1933 Marries Victoria Kamhi in Valencia, on January 19th.

1934 Wins First Prize from the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Valencia for his symphonic poem, Per la flor del lliri blau. Receives the Conde de Cartagena Scholarship for further study in Paris. Composes Cántico de la esposa on a poem by Saint John of the Cross, dedicated to his wife, Victoria.

1935 Death of his teacher, Paul Dukas. Composes the Sonada de adiós (Tribute to Paul Dukas), for piano, in his memory.

1936 With the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, the Conde de Cartagena Scholarship is cancelled.  In May, he gives a lecture at the Sorbonne on "The vihuela  and its players".

1936-1938 Residence in Paris, Salzburg and Freiburg.

1938 Lectures at the University of Santander Summer Courses.

1939 Composes the Concierto de Aranjuez in Paris. Returns permanently to Madrid, named Head of the Artistic Section of the Spanish National Organization for the Blind (ONCE), Contributor to the Music Department of Radio Nacional. Begins activity as music critic.
