1960 The French government awards him the title Officier des Arts et des Lettres.

1961 First Prize, ORTF Coupe de la Guitare for Invocación y danza.

1962 Attended the Festival of Bordeaux which featured the premiere of La Grotte, for soprano and orchestra on May 12. Attended the Gulbenkian Festival in Lisbon where he gave several conference/concerts.

1963 The French government awards him the Legion of Honor. Marriage of his daughter, Cecilia to the violinist Agustín León Ara April 6. Teaches a course on the History of Music at the University of Puerto Rico. Composes Sones en la Giralda, for harp and orchestra, dedicated to harpist, Marisa Robles.

1964 Honorary Doctorate, University of Salamanca.  World premiere of El hijo fingido, zarzuela, with libretto by Lope de Vega, adapted by Jesús María Arozamena and Victoria Kamhi, at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, Madrid, on December 5

1966 Gran Cruz del Mérito Civil. Gold Medal, Mérito en el Trabajo. World premiere of Adagio para instrumentos de viento, by the American Wind Symphony, conducted by Robert Boudreau, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in June.

1967 Birth of his grand-daughter, Cecilia on January 2. Member of the Société Européene de Culture. World premiere of Concierto andaluz, for four guitars and orchestra, by the Symphonic Orchestra of San Antonio, Texas, conducted by Victor Alessandro, with The Romeros Quartet as soloists, on November 18.

1968 Member of the Académie du Monde Latin.

1969 Member of Honor of the San Carlos Academy of Fine Arts, Valencia.
