1970  

Birth of his grand-daughter, Patricia Sofia on April 22.

World premiere of Concierto madrigal for two guitars and orchestra, by the Los Angeles Symphony, conducted by Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, with soloists Pepe and Angel Romero, in Los Angeles, California on July 30.


1971   Premiere of Con Antonio Machado, for voice and piano, by María Orán, soprano, and pianists  Joaquín Rodrigo and Miguel Zanetti, in Seville on October 4.

1972   Premiere of Pájaros de primavera, for guitar, in Japan on June 9.

1973   Trip to Japan.

1974   Trip to Mexico.  Named Advisor for Music at the Ateneo of Madrid.

1975   World premiere of Sónnica, la cortesana, stage adaptation  of the work by Blasco Ibañez, at the Roman Theater of Sagunto,Valencia, on July 24.

1976   Honorary Member of the Madrid Athenaeum. President of the Spanish National Committee of the International Council of Music, UNESCO.

1977   Trips to Roma, London and Brussels. Composes Sonatina para dos muñecas, for piano four hands, dedicated to his granddaughters, Cecilia and Patricia.

1978  

Member of the Royal Academy of Sciences, Letters and Fine Arts of Belgium, taking the seat held by Benjamin Britten.

World premiere of the symphonic poem, A la busca del más allá, by the Symphonic Orchestra of Houston, Texas, conducted by Antoni Ros Marbá on March 27.

World premiere of Concierto pastoral, for flute and orchestra, by the Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Eduardo Mata, with soloist Sir James Galway,on October 17, in London.


1979   World premiere of Tríptico, for guitar, by Alexandre Lagoya, Festival of Music, in the Castle of La Rougerie, France, on July 21.

1980   Gold Medal, Mérito en las Bellas Artes.

1981  

Rodrigo Festival in Mexico.

World premiere of Como una fantasía, for cello, by Carlos Prieto in Mexico City on March 17.


1982  

World premiere of Concierto como un divertimento, for cello and orchestra, by the Philharmonic Orchestra of London, conducted by Jesús López Cobos, with soloist Julian Lloyd Webber, in London on April 15.

National Music Prize.  Honorary Doctorate, University of Southern California.


1983   World premiere of Concierto para una fiesta, for guitar and orchestra by the Texas Little Symphony, conducted by John Giordano, with soloist Pepe Romero, in Texas on March 5.

1984   Auction in Paris, sponsored by UNESCO, of the manuscript of Fandango del ventorrillo (from Cuatro piezas para piano).  The manuscript was requested by Yehudi Menuhin "since you are internationally renowned in the world of music".

1985   Release of a TV documentary "Joaquín Rodrigo" in the series of "Great Musicians", directed by Agustín Navarro.

1986   Rodrigo Festival in London from March 3-15.  World premiere of Cántico de San Francisco de Asís, by the Bournemouth Sinfonietta & Choir and The Renaissance Choir, conducted by Raymond Calcraft, within the Festival, March 15.

1987   Gold Medal and  Member of Honor of the Valencia Generalitat.

1988   Honorary Doctorate, Polytechnical University of Valencia. Director of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, Madrid

1989  

Gold Medal, University of Madrid.

Honorary Doctorate, University of Alicante.

Honorary Doctorate, University of Madrid.

Gold Medal Mérito Artístico, from the City of Madrid.

Honorary Board Member of the Sociedad General de Autores de España, SGAE.
